History of Global Handwashing Day

The first Global Handwashing Day was celebrated in 2008 when more than 120 million children in more than 70 countries around the world washed their hands with soap. Global Handwashing Day was established by the Global Handwashing Partnership to inculcate the habit of handwashing among people and spread awareness about the prevention of diseases.

Every year Global Handwashing Day is celebrated under a theme. The theme of Global Handwashing Day this year is – “Clean hands are within reach”.

Correct way of washing hands step by step

1. First of all, wet your hands with water.

2. After this rub the soap on your palms.

3. Make a good lather of soap in your hands and then rub the front and back of the palms with it.

4. Apart from palms, also clean between the fingers thoroughly.

5. Now clean your hands by taking them under water and rubbing them. So that the soap comes out properly.

6.. After this, wipe the hands with a clean towel or tissue.
