By Jitendra Jangid- Friends, the increasing air pollution in the world is a matter of concern, especially in a country like India, where the level of air pollution has increased a lot in many cities, due to which a lot of health related problems are being faced, one of the most affected areas of health from air pollution is the ear, nose and throat (ENT), which are particularly sensitive to the harmful effects of polluted air. Let's know the complete details about it
Expert opinion on the dangers of pollution
Hazardous air quality poses serious health risks for everyone, but it is even more risky for children. Their respiratory system is still developing, so they are more vulnerable to long-term damage from pollutants. Pollutants present in the air can irritate the sensitive mucous membranes in the nose and ears, leading to chronic ENT conditions over time.
In metropolitan areas, where construction sites and traffic congestion contribute to further deteriorating air quality, the impact on ENT health is even more pronounced. People living in such cities experience constant discomfort, and ENT and eye health require special attention.
Effect of Pollution on ENT Health: Survey Insights
41% of participants experienced a significant increase in eye-related health problems during periods of high pollution.
55% reported suffering from ENT problems such as sore throat, nasal congestion and ear discomfort. 38% experienced dry eyes, irritation, swelling, redness and itching during pollution months. These problems were found to be more pronounced during high pollution periods, indicating a direct link between air quality and ENT health.
Yet, despite these alarming statistics, a large number of people do not seek professional medical advice. In fact, 68% of respondents did not consult a healthcare professional for pollution-related ENT issues.
This highlights the need for greater awareness and preventive care, especially since more than half of the survey participants expressed concern about the long-term impact of pollution on their ENT and eye health.
