Dandruff... how the mouth becomes on hearing this word. Now think of other women like me whose scalp is filled with dandruff in winter. Although this problem sometimes arises in summer also.

If you have dandruff then you too must have heard much advice from many people to cure it. Some say to apply oil and some talk about applying different types of remedies. However, those who have dandruff should first know its cause and then proceed towards further treatment.

Well-known dermatologist DrJayashree Sharad tells through her Insta post that if you have dandruff then it is very important to take care of some things. It is most important that you take full care of hygiene.

Dr Sharad also shares many such tips, so let us first tell you the reason for dandruff and some important tips in this article.

What is dandruff?

Dandruff is a common condition that causes scaly skin on the scalp. It is not contagious or serious. Mild dandruff can be treated with a gentle regular shampoo. You see these flakes in the hair or on the shoulders. Due to this, there is often a lot of itching on the scalp.

What are the reasons for dandruff?

This is caused by dry skin or a build-up of oil. Skin conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, a weakened immune system and some neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, can also cause dandruff.

Keep these things in mind in dandruff-

Maintain hygiene

It is most important that you maintain the hygiene of your scalp. This means washing your scalp 3-4 times a week. The shampoo used should contain 2 percent ketoconazole or zinc pyrithione. When the scalp is cleaned frequently, any dirt or oil buildup is reduced.

Do not apply oil

You must have heard from many people that if there is dandruff then the scalp will be dry and hence you should apply oil on the head. If you are doing this, then it is correct…not. Yes, Dr Sharad says that you should not apply any kind of oil on the head. Dandruff-causing yeast feeds on the saturated fatty acids found in oils like coconut and olive. This can worsen the condition of dandruff.

Don't use a dirty comb

Do not use dirty or someone else's comb. Not only does this lead to more hair breakage, but dirt also sticks to your hair. This can cause itching and dandruff on your scalp. Apart from this, you should not use someone else's comb.

Take a shower after a workout

After working up a sweat at the gym, showering is an important part of personal hygiene. Many people also take a bath but do not clean their scalps. Make sure you wash your head immediately after a workout or after playing. If you sweat a lot then it becomes even more important for you.

If even after this your dandruff problem has become serious then you must contact your dermatologist without delay. Do not try any such home remedy without consulting, which can increase your problem.
