Domestic gold prices declined for the second consecutive day on Wednesday as the US dollar strengthened. Losses were limited by expectations of an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve. Silver prices on Wednesday rose by Rs 222 to Rs 69,408 per kg in futures trade as traders widened their holdings amid strong demand in the spot market. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in March rose by Rs 222, or 0.32 percent, to Rs 69,408 per kg, with a business turnover of 19,994 lots.

Market analysts attributed the rise in silver prices to fresh buying amid a positive trend in the market. Globally, silver traded higher by 0.88 percent at USD 24.28 an ounce in New York.
