Fish is an important part of a healthy and well-balanced diet. It is considered a rich source of protein, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids, which benefit our body in many ways. People who eat it are not at risk of high blood pressure and heart disease. So many benefits of fish will be wasted if it gets contaminated. Nowadays, there is so much pollution in lakes, rivers, canals, and ponds that even fish are not worth eating. Dietitian Aayushi Yadav said that if you consume these contaminated fish, then you may have to face many dangerous consequences.
Disadvantages of eating contaminated fish
1. Cancer
Cancer is a very dangerous disease that can even take a person's life, if you consume contaminated fish in excess, then you may be at risk. There are factories and industries near many rivers and seas, and the industrial chemicals emitted from them later mix in water bodies and get deposited at the bottom of the water. Many toxic substances are found in the tissues of fish. This is the reason why fish get contaminated and cause cancer. Apart from this, there are many types of microplastics in the sea that reach your stomach through fish which can give rise to cancer.
2. Risk of consuming pesticides
Often pesticides are used to protect crops from insects, which later get washed away with rainwater and get mixed in ponds, canals, and rivers. When fish get contaminated due to these pesticides and we eat them, then it is sure to cause harm. It has been proved in many studies that eating such fish can cause fertility problems, weak immune systems, cancer, and problems during childbirth.
3. Food poisoning
Contaminated food, no matter how it is, is not good for our health. Sea lice and carbon are found in abundance in the sea, due to which fish also get contaminated. If you eat these things, there will be a risk of food poisoning and then you may complain of vomiting, stomach ache, and indigestion.
