Stomach gas is very common and every person expels the gas through belching or farting. However, many people also feel embarrassed about having access to gas. Gas formation in the stomach can be due to many reasons. One of them is that we make so many disturbances in our diet that it causes bloating and gas.

There are many such food items, the consumption of which can increase the problem of acidity and gas. Some beans and pulses are among the food items that cause gas in the stomach.

Functional Hormonal Health Nutritionist Shikha Gupta shares information related to diet and health fitness through her social media accounts. In one of his posts, she also talked about bloating caused by pulses. "Lentils and legumes are rich in many nutrients, but they can cause digestive problems," she says. Shikha has also told the reason behind this and the ways to avoid the problem of bloating after eating lentils, let's learn about them in this article.

Why does eating lentils cause gas?

There is a special type of sugar in legumes which man is not able to digest completely. The remaining sugars can be broken down and absorbed, but the human body does not produce enzymes that can properly break down the sugars in legumes. Stomach bacteria eat this sugar and the process of fermentation that goes on in our gut produces gas. We remove this gas through a fart.

Cause of gas

Now it is not necessary that eating pulses will make gas in your stomach. It can arise due to any reason. Intestinal gas is made up of hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide and is odourless. Gas smells because of eating sugar and high-sulfur foods present in the food. This is a common problem.

Eat lentils like this; there will be no gas and bloating

Nutritionist Shikha Gupta also gives such tips, after which you will never have the problem of gas and bloating. You must also try these 3 tips told by him-

  • To avoid bloating and gas, first, soak the dal for at least 8-10 hours. Soaking lentils and beans are not only good for better absorption of nutrients, but it also helps stimulate amylase. Amylase is a molecule that helps break down complex starches in lentils and beans, making them easier to digest.

  • Adding 1 tsp apple cider vinegar to the Paavo while soaking the dal will also prevent gas. Apple cider vinegar helps to soften the fibre and reduce anti-nutrients compared to plain water. This is the reason why let the dal soak for at least 6-10 hours. It is best to soak the dal overnight.
  • Apart from this, remove the white foam that forms on the top while cooking the lentils. This white scum is known as saponin and tends to accumulate on top while cooking the dal. This also becomes a big reason for your flatulence problem.

Pro tip: Asafoetida and ginger are ingredients that work to boost your digestive power. You must have seen that a pinch of asafoetida is added before making tur dal. It prevents the formation of Vata. If you make dal in future, then add ginger and a pinch of asafoetida to it.

Now you too try these simple and important tips given by the nutritionist and say goodbye to the gas problem caused by pulses. Make your dal tastier by adding 1 tsp of ghee and enjoy a flavourful meal.
