Diwali is a festival of joy and one of the most important Hindu celebrations. From worshiping the gods to lighting firecrackers and decorating homes and shops with lights, flowers and oil lamps, Diwali festival is celebrated with great pomp. The celebrations begin with Dhanteras, the first day of Diwali.
On Dhanteras, people traditionally worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, Lord Kubera, the god of wealth, and Lord Dhanvantri, the god of Ayurveda. Buying gold, silver or utensils on this day is considered auspicious. Additionally, performing a special and calming ritual on the night of Dhanteras brings divine blessings, ensuring financial prosperity in one's life. Here are more details about this powerful Dhanteras ritual:
Secret Rituals for Dhanteras
On the night of Dhanteras, lighting a lamp in honor of Yama (the god of death) is considered very important. This diya should be placed near the main entrance of your house. It is advisable to use a slightly bigger diya. Instead of placing it directly on the ground, place some rice or wheat grains at the entrance and place the diya on top of it. Fill the diya with mustard oil, place a cotton wick in it and light it with a matchstick. Let the diya burn throughout the night without moving it and do not look back after lighting it.
Do not bring the diya back inside the house the next day. Instead, collect the diya and the used rice or wheat, place them in a bag and leave them at a nearby intersection. According to religious beliefs, if this ritual is performed with sincerity and peace, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera bless the house. It ensures prosperity, wealth, happiness and peace for the family, warding off financial conflicts.
