These days, there is a jump in the number of dengue patients in many states of the country. This mosquito-borne disease has caused a lot of devastation in the southern state of Karnataka. The number of dengue cases in the state has crossed the 25,000 mark this year, which is the highest ever in Karnataka.

As of September 3, 25,589 cases and 12 deaths have been recorded in Karnataka. Given the increasing danger, the state government has declared it an epidemic.

Apart from Karnataka, reports of increasing infection are also coming from many other states including Maharashtra, Delhi, and Bihar. Health experts have advised all people to keep taking necessary measures to protect themselves from mosquitoes.

Blood platelets decrease in dengue.

According to recent information, dengue cases are increasing rapidly in Bihar. 55 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours. So far five people have also died. The state capital Patna remains a hotspot, from where 27 new cases have been reported. Apart from this, according to the information received from the hospitals of Delhi-NCR, there is an increase in the number of dengue patients here too.

It is worth noting that due to the decrease in blood platelets in dengue, the risk of internal bleeding increases. This condition can also be fatal.

Let us know what measures can be taken to increase the platelet count.

How to increase platelet count
The normal platelet count in the body of adults is between 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per microliter of blood. A quantity less than this can increase problems. To avoid or avoid such a problem, consume things rich in folate or vitamin B9. This vitamin is essential for healthy blood cells.

According to the National Institute of Health, adults need at least 400 micrograms of folate per day. This can be fulfilled by red meat, spinach, and sprouts, green leafy vegetables, and nuts.

Vitamin B12 is essential.

Vitamin B12 is essential for the formation of red blood cells. Low levels of vitamin B12 in the body can also cause a decrease in platelet count. People aged 14 years and above require 2.4 micrograms of vitamin B12 per day. Platelet count in the body can be increased by consuming meat-chicken, eggs, fatty fish, and nuts-seeds.

Papaya leaf extract is also beneficial.

Consumption of papaya leaf has been very popular in dengue. A study conducted in the year 2019 to know its authenticity has found it beneficial. The study found that in three out of four cases, consumption of papaya leaf extract can increase platelet count. However, more research is needed to support this claim.

Health experts say that in case of dengue, such measures should be avoided without medical advice.
