On hearing the name of Khichdi, children and many elders at home start frowning. Khichdi is a dish which anyone can make easily. It can be made in a cooker by adding only pulses, rice and some spices. Its taste is amazing. Along with this, it is also considered beneficial for health. In the winter season, you can double the taste of Dal Khichdi by adding some vegetables and peas. Along with this, we will also tell you some tricks and tips by which you can enhance the taste of Khichdi. Everyone will eat and praise this khichdi.
Dal Khichdi Ingredients
Rice-1 cup
Moong dal- 1/2 cup
Toor/Arhar dal- 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Cumin- 1 tsp
Asafoetida- 1/4 tsp
Bay leaf-1
Cinnamon- 1 inch
Black cardamom- 1
Green cardamom- 1
Cloves- 3
Black pepper- 4
Green chilli – 2 to 3
Ground ginger and garlic – 1 tbsp
Onion- 3/4 cup
Matar- 1/2 cup
Green peas- 1/2 cup
Red chilli powder-1 tsp
Coriander powder-1/2 tsp
Cumin powder-1/2 tsp
Garam masala-1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves
How to make Dal Khichdi
First of all, wash all the ingredients, lentils and rice thoroughly with water. Now after this add all the things along with two glasses of water. After this, add salt as per taste, half a teaspoon of turmeric and mix. Now close the lid of the cooker and cook on medium flame till 5-6 whistles.
After this, turn off the gas and release the pressure from the cooker. Till then prepare the tadka for khichdi. Heat 4 teaspoons of oil in a pan. Then add cumin, asafoetida, bay leaves, 2-inch cinnamon, whole black pepper, cloves, green chilli, big cardamom, and whole black pepper. After this add ginger garlic paste and green chilli.
When the mixture is cooked, add curry leaves and onion to the pan and cook. After the onion changes colour, add peas and tomatoes, mix well and cook for two minutes. After this, add salt to the pan and cover the pan with a lid. Let the mixture cook for 5-6 minutes and then add the spices to it.
Fry the spices a little and then add boiled khichdi to it and stir, then add some hot water to it and reduce the flame to low. Cover and let it cook for 5-6 minutes. Put ghee on top.
