What are good fats?

Good Unsaturated Fats – Contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which reduce the risk of disease. Foods with good fats include some vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, and fish.

What are bad fats?

Bad fats are trans fats, which increase the risk of disease, even when consumed in moderation. Trans fats found in processed foods make you sick. The 'bad' fats in your diet can raise cholesterol levels, clog arteries and increase your risk of heart disease.

Cooking oils with good fats

Using the right cooking oil is important for our health. You should also use oils containing these good fats-

  • Extra virgin oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Mustard oil
  • Sesame oil
  • Avocado oil
  • Peanut oil
  • Ghee

Bad Fat Oils

Did you think that the oils you were consuming till now may also contain bad fats? If you are using such cooking oils, then avoid doing this-

  • Rice bran oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • Safflower oil
  • Canola oil
  • Soybean oil
  • Palm oil
  • Margarine oil

How to use these oils-

  • You can use olives as a dressing on salads, stir-fries, and other dishes. It is very easy to prepare any recipe and requires a low temperature to cook.
  • Mustard oil is best for cooking. Its aroma also adds a mustard flavour to the food. It is better to use this oil for making saag or green vegetables.
  • Coconut oil is also used in cooking. It is also used for baking as well as for stir-frying vegetables. On the other hand, fish becomes very tasty in coconut oil.
