Making cheela with semolina can be a delicious and refreshing breakfast option. Semolina cheela, also known as sooji cheela, is a popular Indian dish that is quick and easy to prepare. Here's a simple recipe for you:
Ingredients:
1 cup semolina (sooji/rava)
1/4 cup yogurt
1/4 cup finely chopped onions
1/4 cup finely chopped tomatoes
1/4 cup grated carrots
2 tablespoons finely chopped coriander leaves
1 green chili, finely chopped (optional, adjust to your spice preference)
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
Salt to taste
Water (as needed)
Oil (for cooking)
Instructions:
In a mixing bowl, combine semolina, yogurt, onions, tomatoes, carrots, coriander leaves, green chili (if using), cumin seeds, red chili powder, and salt. Mix everything well.
Slowly add water to the mixture while continuously stirring, until you achieve a smooth and pourable batter consistency. Allow the batter to rest for about 10-15 minutes.
Heat a non-stick skillet or tawa over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.
Pour a ladleful of the semolina batter onto the center of the skillet and spread it gently in a circular motion to form a thin, round cheela.
Drizzle a little oil around the edges of the cheela and cook it for a couple of minutes until the bottom turns golden brown.
Flip the cheela using a spatula and cook the other side for another couple of minutes until it becomes crispy and well cooked.
Remove the cheela from the skillet and repeat the process with the remaining batter.
Serve the semolina cheela hot with mint chutney, tomato ketchup, or any other accompaniment of your choice.
