Nowadays, the trend of washing hands and face with cleanser has increased a lot among people of all ages. But these cleansers i.e. face wash and body wash are harming our skin. This has come to light in an American study. This study has been published in the journal PNAS Nexus. Researchers at Stanford University evaluated nine cleansers by studying changes in the skin of two women in France. Additionally, 7,000 women in China were also evaluated for skin changes caused by six cleansers. After this study, he said, a real example of this is the tightness of your skin after washing with cleanser. This occurs due to the contraction of the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of our skin.

Lack of moisture

Researchers said that skin is the largest part of the body. It remains in constant contact with its environment. Its outermost layer, the stratum corneum, works to keep out unwanted chemicals and bacteria and retain moisture. But after washing with cleanser, the outer part of your skin starts changing. This reduces the moisture of the skin.

The skin gradually begins to tighten.

Professor Reinhold Daushard of Stanford's Department of Science and Engineering explained that the mechanical force generated by the contraction or swelling of the outer layer of the skin is transmitted to mechanoreceptors (a sense) beneath the epidermis. The skin then sends signals to the brain which we interpret as skin tightness. The skin of the cheeks, forehead, and abdomen is most affected.

The researchers who conducted the study

said they measured changes in the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin, in the lab. These data were compared to state-of-the-art models of human skin to estimate signals sent to the brain by mechanoreceptors in the outer layer of the skin. After this, the state of skin tightness was evaluated. Doscard said his study could be useful in improving vitiligo.
