Why does constipation occur?
In an interaction with HT, Dr. Smita Naram, Co-Founder, of Ayushakthi revealed that the most common cause of constipation is eating heavy, sour, processed, packaged, and non-fiber foods. Some people have a habit of suppressing their natural desire and drinking cold water during the day, which also leads to constipation. Apart from this, constipation can also occur due to lifestyle. In Ayurveda, constipation occurs due to excess Vata in the body. If you have too much Vata in your body, the body feels dry and absorbs too much water, which leads to dry stools. Dr. Smita Naram has told about many natural ways to reduce constipation in Ayurveda.

1) Haritaki and Castor Oil- Haritaki, also known as Terminalia Chebula. Castor oil helps in flushing out toxins and balancing Vata. It helps relieve bloating, and it promotes easier bowel movements.

2) Black raisins- It has Vata-reducing properties, which help in gas, bloating, and digestion. Its cooling effect also reduces pitta and acidity. Soak 20 black raisins daily in 1 glass of water overnight and drink the water the next morning and chew it in the morning.
