Adhikmas: Adhikmas or Malmas has started today i.e. 18th July, Tuesday, which is ending on the 16th August, Wednesday. A purushottam month has special importance in Hinduism. Adhikamas is also known as Malmas and Purushottam month because its master is Lord Shri Hari himself. Purushottam is the only name of Lord Vishnu. According to legend, Adhikamas appeared to strike a balance between the solar and lunar months. He was prepared for the rest of the days, so no deity was ready to become the ruler of this month. In such a situation, Lord Shiva urged Lord Vishnu to become the ruler of this month.

Lord Vishnu accepted this request and settled this month in Braj region. Worshiping Lord Vishnu and listening to Bhagwat Katha this month is considered very virtuous. It is believed that the religious works and worship done in this month give more results and salvation is attained. According to the belief of the Puranas, during the month of Purushottam, all the pilgrimages reside in the Braj region, as well as there is special importance on traveling to Brajmandal i.e. Lord Krishna's leela place Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Barsana pilgrimage.

What to do in Purushottam month
Chanting 'Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay' twelve-letter mantra in this month is considered very beneficial. It is believed that Lord Vishnu himself blesses the devotees who chant the Vishnu Mantra in Adhikamas, removes their sins, and fulfills all their wishes.

Religious rituals related to Lord Vishnu, especially Bhagwat recitation, Ramayana recitation, Geeta recitation, and Harivansh Puran recitation, etc. are considered very auspicious.

Dakshinavriti conch is very dear to Lord Vishnu, it is also considered as the brother of Goddess Lakshmi. Worshiping conch with rice in Adhikamas, Lakshmi resides in the house, there is no shortage of money and grains.

Tulsi is very dear to Sri Hari. Tulsi is the form of Mother Lakshmi. To remove prosperity and family troubles in the house, regular pure water should be offered to Tulsi in the morning and a lamp of cow's ghee should be lit in the evening. Also, chanting 'Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay' while doing 21 parikramas of Tulsi keeps happiness and peace.

Lord Vishnu is believed to reside in Peepal. To get financial progress and the grace of Shri Vishnu, in this month, except Sundays, offer sweet water to Peepal and go around it chanting Vishnu Mantra.

This time Purushottam month has been added to Sawan. By doing religious deeds and worshiping Shiva in the month of Sawan, you get renewable virtue. Worshiping Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu in Adhik Maas gives auspicious results. Lord Vishnu is the master of Adhik month and Lord Shiva is the master of Sawan month. In such a situation, worshiping in the month of Sawan gives blessings to both Lord Vishnu and Shiva.
