Life and death are believed to be in the hands of God. Only God knows when, why and how someone's life will end. However, our scriptures mention many such actions that are known to reduce a person's age. According to the Garuda Purana published by Geeta Press Gorakhpur, some actions can shorten life:

Eating curd at night
Garuda Purana prohibits eating curd at night, as it can have a negative impact on a person's health, increasing the risk of digestive problems. Ayurveda also prohibits eating curd at night because digestion slows down during sleep, and if curd is not digested properly, it can cause many diseases.

Eating meat
Eating meat is believed to shorten life, as it can expose the body to harmful bacteria and viruses found in meat. Unlike carnivorous animals, whose teeth and digestion are adapted to meat, the human body is less suited to digest meat effectively, which can lead to health issues.

Sleeping late in the morning
Sleeping late can also affect longevity, as the pure air of the morning, known as Brahma muhurta, is said to boost health and immunity. Missing this time means missing out on its health benefits, which can potentially lead to various diseases.

Exposure to cremation smoke
According to the text, the smoke from crematoriums carries bacteria and viruses from the dead body. Inhaling this smoke can lead to health issues, as harmful microbes can stick to the body, increasing the risk of disease.

Frequent or early morning intimacy
Engaging in frequent or early morning intimacy can weaken the body over time. According to tradition, the morning time is most suitable for practices such as yoga and pranayama, which strengthen health and immunity. Excessive indulgence in intimate activities can reduce the body's ability to fight diseases, affecting longevity.
