The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has developed a new security mechanism for fingerprint authentication and fraud detection of the Aadhaar. This information was given on Monday in an official release.
The new security system based on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) is now using tools like 'Finger Minusia' and 'Finger Image' together to check the validity of the captured fingerprint.
What is the specialty of the new tool?
UIDAI has said in a statement that a new security mechanism is being introduced for fingerprint-based Aadhaar authentication. UIDAI said that this is making Aadhaar authentication transactions even more robust and secure. The release said that the new two-factor/layer authentication is adding an add-on feature to authenticate the liveness of the fingerprint, to further reduce the possibility of fraud.
More secure transactions
The new tool will be highly useful in banking, finance, telecom, and other government sectors. This will strengthen the Aadhaar-based payment system and curb the activities of unscrupulous people. UIDAI has said that its benefits will reach the 'bottom of the population pyramid'. The release said that Aadhaar-based fingerprint authentication is now fully functional.
The partnership of UIDAI with Authentication User Agencies (AUAs) is expected to make the system work better. AUA is engaged in providing Aadhaar-based services to Aadhaar holders using authentication. Sub-AUAs are agencies that use Aadhaar authentication to deliver services through the requesting entity.
The use of Aadhaar is increasing continuously
The adoption of Aadhaar-based authentication is on the rise in the country as it has proved to help deliver many welfare services to the people. By the end of December 2022, the number of Aadhaar authentication transactions had crossed 880 crores and an average of 7 crore transactions were happening per day. Most of them are fingerprint-based authentication.
