Just as in Hinduism, Chhathi Puja is performed six days after the birth of a newborn. Similarly, Chhathi Puja of Kanha Ji is also performed six days after Krishna Janmotsav (Janmashtami). It is believed that by performing Chhathi Puja, newborn babies are saved from many types of disasters and negativity.
After Janmashtami, Kanha Ji's Chhathi will be celebrated on Thursday, 21 August 2025. According to the Panchang, Shri Krishna's birth anniversary is celebrated on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month and six days later i.e. Kanha's Chhathi is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month.
Do Chhathi puja of Kanha ji with this method
- Abhijeet Muhurta is the most auspicious time for Kanha Ji's Chhathi, which will be from 11:58 am to 12:50 pm. You can do Chhathi Puja of Kanha Ji in this Muhurta. Some people also do Chhathi Puja in the evening.
- For the puja, first of all take a bath and wear clean clothes. After this, bathe Kanha with Panchamrit and pure water. Dress Kanha in beautiful clothes and jewellery and do special makeup of him.
- During the puja, offer seasonal fruits, flowers, sweets, sandalwood, whole rice, roli, betel nut, incense, lamp, Tulsi and naivedya etc. to Kanha.
- Also offer Kanha his favourite things like butter-sugar, Malpua, Panchamrit, kheer, curry rice etc.
- During the puja, keep chanting the mantras of Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya Namah or Shri Krishna.
- In the end, perform Aarti and distribute Prasad among the devotees.
