IPL 2025: Five Players Ruled Out for the Entire Season, BCCI Imposes Ban on One

The much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to begin on March 22, with the opening match featuring Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, ahead of the tournament, several players have been ruled out due to injuries and other reasons. Some franchises have already named replacements, while one player has even received a ban from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Here’s a look at the five big names who will be missing from IPL 2025.

Players Who Will Miss IPL 2025

1. Lizaad Williams (Mumbai Indians)
South African pacer Lizaad Williams, who was signed by Mumbai Indians for ₹50 lakh in the auction, will miss the entire season due to a knee injury. In his absence, Mumbai Indians have brought in Corbin Bosch, another South African cricketer known for his all-round abilities. Bosch has limited international experience, having played one Test and two ODIs, but this opportunity in the IPL could be a turning point in his career.

2. Umran Malik (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Express fast bowler Umran Malik, known for his raw pace, will not be seen in action this season. He was picked up by KKR for ₹75 lakh in the IPL 2025 auction but has been sidelined due to an injury. As a replacement, KKR has signed left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya, who has played 19 IPL matches and claimed 20 wickets so far.

3. Harry Brook (Delhi Capitals – Banned for Two Years)
England's young sensation Harry Brook has withdrawn from IPL 2025 just before the tournament’s start. Delhi Capitals had bought him for ₹6.25 crore, expecting him to strengthen their batting lineup. However, this is the second consecutive season where Brook has pulled out of the IPL at the last moment, leading BCCI to impose a two-year ban on him. Delhi Capitals have not yet announced a replacement.

4. Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar (Mumbai Indians)
Afghanistan’s 19-year-old rising spinner Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar was signed by Mumbai Indians for ₹4.8 crore, but he has been ruled out due to a back injury. In his place, MI has roped in experienced Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who has 19 wickets in as many IPL matches. Mumbai Indians secured Mujeeb’s services for ₹2 crore.

5. Brydon Carse (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
England fast bowler Brydon Carse is another player who will miss the tournament due to injury. Sunrisers Hyderabad had acquired him for ₹1 crore in the auction, but with his unavailability, they have signed South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder as his replacement. Mulder has represented South Africa in 18 Tests, 25 ODIs, and 11 T20Is, taking a total of 60 international wickets.

With these major changes in squad line-ups, IPL 2025 will see new faces stepping in for key players. Fans will be eager to see how the replacements perform in the high-pressure environment of the tournament.
