In a season where timing is everything, Delhi Capitals may have blinked too long. With the IPL 2025 playoffs approaching fast and Delhi fighting to stay in contention, the franchise has finally addressed a key squad gap — two months after it opened.
Atal in, Brook Out — At Last!
On May 7, Delhi Capitals announced the signing of Afghanistan's Sediqullah Atal as a replacement for Harry Brook, who pulled out of IPL 2025 way back on March 9. Brook, bought for over ₹6 crore, had withdrawn before the tournament citing personal reasons, following which BCCI banned him for two years from IPL participation.
Despite having the window to find a replacement early, Delhi sat on the decision for nearly two months — baffling fans and analysts alike.
Why the Delay?
Delhi’s early season success may have masked the urgency, but once their form dipped and playoff hopes became uncertain, questions resurfaced. The timing of this signing — just 11 days before the league stage ends — has left many wondering if it’s too little, too late.
Who is Sediqullah Atal?
- Age: 23
- T20Is for Afghanistan: 9 matches, 96 runs, strike rate of 87
- Overall T20 career: 1507 runs in 49 matches, strike rate of 131
- Price tag: ₹1.25 crore
While his international stats are underwhelming, his domestic T20 form is promising, and Delhi Capitals will be hoping he brings fresh energy to the struggling middle order.
