In a dramatic escalation of diplomatic messaging following Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces on Sunday released the names of senior Pakistani Army and police officials who attended the funerals of terrorists killed in India's precision strikes on May 7. The Indian strikes were a direct retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 Indian civilians.
Key Pakistani Officials Named at Terrorist Funerals
The list released includes top military and police personnel from Pakistan’s Punjab province, along with a provincial lawmaker:
- Lieutenant General Fayyaz Hussain Shah, Commander, IV Corps, Lahore
- Major General Rao Imran Sartaj, 11th Infantry Division, Lahore
- Brigadier Mohammad Furqan Shabbir
- Dr. Usman Anwar, Inspector General of Punjab Police
- Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth, Member of Provincial Assembly, Punjab
Pakistan’s ‘State Funerals’ for Terrorists Draw Sharp Indian Rebuke
According to visual and photographic evidence shared by Indian authorities, the funerals were attended by uniformed Pakistani Army and police personnel, with some coffins draped in Pakistan’s national flag—a gesture typically reserved for national heroes or martyrs.
In one widely circulated video, soldiers were seen carrying coffins of terrorists in Muridke, the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), where three men—Qari Abdul Malik, Khalid, and Mudassir—were given full state honours. These individuals were affiliated with Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD), a front for LeT.
The funeral prayers were led by Hafiz Abdul Rauf, a US-designated global terrorist and a senior figure within LeT. Civil officials and JuD members also participated.
India Responds with Condemnation
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, during a press conference, showed the image of uniformed Pakistani officials standing in prayer behind terrorist coffins and asked:
“What message does it send to the world when a so-called civilian is buried with full state honours and in the presence of Pakistan’s armed forces?”
He further dismissed Pakistan’s claims that civilians had been killed in the strikes:
“It’s odd that the funerals of ‘civilians’ are carried out with Pakistani flags and state honours.”
Targeted Strikes Across Key Terror Hubs
India struck nine terror locations:
- Four in Pakistan: Muridke, Bahawalpur, Sawai Nalla, Sarjal
- Five in POK: Kotli, Kotli Gulpur, Mehmoona Joya, Bhimber
These included strongholds of major terror outfits:
- Muridke: LeT HQ
- Bahawalpur: Jaish-e-Mohammed base
India’s precision strikes reportedly eliminated over 100 terrorists and destroyed vital infrastructure across these locations.
