India may field a full-strength team for the Afghanistan Test. Shubman Gill will assume the captaincy, while Bumrah is likely to be rested, and Devdutt Padikkal is likely to get a chance.

team will once again be seen in Test cricket as soon as IPL 2026 concludes. Important information has emerged regarding Team India's potential squad for the one-off Test match against Afghanistan. According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI) is preparing to field a strong team in this match. This Test match between India and Afghanistan will be played from June 6 to June 10 at the Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh. This will be followed by a three-match ODI series between the two teams.
Chances of change in batting order are very less
According to reports, key Indian Test team batsmen may be seen playing in this match. Initially, it was believed that senior players would be rested as part of workload management, but now, after receiving the green light from the medical team regarding fitness and workload, the selectors' stance appears to be changing. Consequently, Shubman Gill is considered almost certain to be given the captaincy. Meanwhile, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are expected to shoulder the opening duties. Rishabh Pant could be seen bolstering the team in the middle order.
Padikkal may get a chance in place of Sai Sudarshan.
The most debated topic in team selection is the number 3 batsman. Reports suggest that young batsman Sai Sudharsan may be dropped from this Test. Devdutt Padikkal is likely to replace him. Padikkal has caught the selectors' attention with his consistent run-scoring in domestic cricket and the Ranji Trophy. Therefore, the team management is keen to try him in the longer format.
Changes may be seen in the pace of the attack.
While the batting department isn't expected to see major changes, the fast bowling attack could see some new faces. Reports suggest Jasprit Bumrah may be rested to manage his workload for the upcoming series. Furthermore, the fitness of Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna and their workload during the IPL are being monitored. A final decision will be made after the tournament concludes.
Selectors eye Aaqib Nabi
Young fast bowler Aaqib Nabi, who performed well in the Ranji Trophy, could get a big opportunity in this Test. His consistent bowling in domestic cricket has impressed the selectors.
The names of players like Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Aaqib Nabi, Harsh Dubey, Mohammed Shami and Anshul Kamboj are being said to be included in India's probable team.
