What is retinal detachment?
Imran Khan's Wife Medical Update: A health issue is currently in the news at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, underwent surgery due to a serious eye problem. According to the jail administration, her right eye was experiencing vision loss, and upon receiving the complaint, she was immediately examined by an expert. The examination confirmed retinal detachment, a serious eye condition.
A team of doctors, including Professor Dr. Nadeem Qureshi, treated him and recommended surgery. On April 16, he was admitted to a private hospital in Rawalpindi, where the necessary tests were performed. Following the surgery, he was kept under observation in the hospital for one night before being released back to jail. Doctors have advised continued regular checkups and care.
What is retinal detachment?
According to the health information organization clevelandclinic, retinal detachment is a condition in which a highly sensitive layer at the back of the eye detaches from its original position. This layer helps detect light and transmit it to the brain. If not treated promptly, it can lead to permanent vision loss. Experts say that the gel-like substance inside the eye changes with age, which can lead to this problem.
In such a situation, prompt diagnosis and treatment are crucial. Patients may experience symptoms such as sudden blurred vision, seeing shadows or flashes before their eyes, or experiencing darkness in certain areas. It is crucial to consult an eye specialist immediately if these symptoms occur.
Care is also necessary
Post-surgery care is equally important. Patients must avoid straining their eyes, take medications as prescribed by their doctor, and undergo regular checkups. The first few days are particularly crucial, as this is when the eye's recovery is determined. Following Bushra Bibi's surgery, doctors have advised continued monitoring and follow-up. According to the prison administration, her condition is now stable, and treatment will continue as directed by the doctors.
Professor Dr. Nadeem Qureshi's team had previously examined Imran Khan 's eyes. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed concern about his health and demanded better treatment.
