The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for rain and snowfall across various parts of India due to a new western disturbance. From North to South, the weather is expected to remain cold with light rain and snowfall in several regions, increasing the discomfort caused by the ongoing cold wave.
Rajasthan: Light Rain Expected This Week
In Rajasthan, where severe cold persists, light rain is expected in parts of the state due to the western disturbance active on January 21-22. The northeastern and northwestern regions will see light rain. Alwar recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 7.2°C, with other areas like Ganganagar and Karauli also seeing temperatures dipping below 8°C.
North India: Cold Wave and Fog Continue
The cold wave continues to grip North India, particularly in Delhi-NCR, where dense fog has severely disrupted traffic. On Monday, Delhi's maximum temperature is predicted to be 24°C, while the minimum will hover around 11°C. The air quality index in the capital stood at 362, categorized as "very poor." The IMD has forecast no immediate relief from the cold or rain.
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar: Rain and Fog
Uttar Pradesh is expected to see more dark clouds and light rain, with strong winds accompanying the cold. Dense fog is prevalent in the morning. In Bihar, light to moderate fog was observed in Patna and other regions. The weather department predicts a slight rise in the minimum temperature in the next 48 hours, offering some relief from the cold.
Punjab and Haryana: Cold Wave with Fog
In Punjab and Haryana, the cold wave continues, and dense fog is reported in many areas. Amritsar recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 4.8°C, and several cities reported temperatures above normal. Chandigarh’s minimum temperature was 8.9°C, while areas like Ambala, Hisar, and Faridabad reported temperatures around 9-10°C.
Himachal Pradesh: Snowfall and Rain Expected
The weather in Himachal Pradesh has remained cold, with temperatures 3-6°C above normal. Despite the dry weather, the IMD has predicted light fog in some areas. Rain and snowfall are expected in the higher altitudes of the state, with moderate snowfall forecasted between January 20-23.
Jammu and Kashmir: Rain and Snowfall Forecast
Jammu and Kashmir will experience rain and snowfall starting from January 20, continuing through January 23. Light to moderate snowfall is expected in the higher regions of the state, particularly in the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal Range. Night temperatures have increased at many stations, but Kashmir Valley still experiences sub-zero temperatures.
Bengaluru: Unseasonal Rain Surprises Residents
Bengaluru, in Karnataka, has witnessed unseasonal rains, surprising many. The IMD predicts more rain in Bengaluru and surrounding areas due to a cyclone formed in the Bay of Bengal. Light rain is expected to continue for the next 48 hours, with other regions of South Karnataka also experiencing sporadic showers.
The IMD’s alerts indicate that the ongoing severe weather conditions are expected to persist, with no immediate respite from the cold and rain across the country.
