The easiest way to peel a boiled egg
Easy Water Glass Hack To Peel Hard Boiled Eggs: As easy as eating a boiled egg is, peeling it can sometimes be quite challenging. When removing the eggshell, it breaks into small pieces, and the white part comes out with it. Especially when preparing a dish using the egg, a poorly peeled egg is unappealing. Sometimes, peeling it takes so long that the entire egg is ruined.
If this happens to you, you can try a simple trick to peel an egg using a glass of water. This involves placing a boiled egg in a glass of water and gently shaking it. This creates cracks in the shell, allowing the water to penetrate. After this, the shell often peels off easily in large sections. However, this trick is only effective if the boiling and cooling methods are correct.
Boil the first egg like this.
First, fill a pot with enough water to completely submerge the eggs. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once the water reaches a rapid boil, gently lower the eggs into the water using a large spoon. Carefully lowering the eggs into the pot, rather than dropping them directly into the pot, reduces the risk of them breaking. Boil the eggs for approximately 8 to 12 minutes. The time required depends on the size of the eggs and how you plan to use them. If you want a fully cooked yolk, boiling for 10 to 12 minutes is appropriate. However, if you prefer a slightly softer yolk for salads or snacks, you can prepare the eggs in less time.
Put the eggs in cold water as soon as they boil.
Once the eggs are boiled, remove them from the hot water and immediately plunge them into ice-cold water. Fill a large bowl with enough cold water to completely submerge all the eggs. Cooling the eggs quickly reduces their heat and can make them easier to handle when peeling. Here's another little trick: Before plunging the eggs into the ice water, lightly tap one end of the egg with a small metal spoon. The goal isn't to break the egg, but to create a small crack in the shell. Then, immediately plunge the eggs into the ice water.
Let the eggs sit in cold water for about 3 to 5 minutes. This time allows water to penetrate the cracks in the shell. This helps separate the shell from the white, making it easier to peel later.
Now try the glass of water trick.
After removing the egg from cold water, take a regular glass and add some water. Place the boiled egg in the glass and pour enough water over it to completely submerge the egg. Then, cover the mouth of the glass with your hand and shake it gently. There's no need to shake the glass vigorously. Shaking gently for a few seconds will cause the eggshell to hit the surface and crack in several places. Water will penetrate these cracks, which can help separate the shell from the white.
Now remove the egg from the glass and peel it by hand. Sometimes the shell comes off all at once or in large chunks. If there's still some stuck-on shell, that area can be gently removed under running water.
Just shaking the glass is not enough.
To peel an egg easily, it's not necessary to rely solely on the shaking trick. Putting the egg in boiling water and then immediately plunging it into ice water is also an important part of this method. If you start boiling the egg in cold water or don't crack the shell before plunging it into ice water, the shell can sometimes stick to the white. Therefore, for best results, it's helpful to place the egg in boiling water, cook it for the correct amount of time, crack it slightly, and then place it in ice water.
Keep these things in mind while peeling eggs.
Don't use too much force when shaking the egg in the glass. Shaking too vigorously can break the egg white and damage its surface. Similarly, when cracking the shell with a spoon, creating only a slight crack is sufficient. Don't hit the egg so hard that it damages the white. If the eggs are too hot, don't try to peel them directly with your hands. First, let them cool thoroughly by immersing them in cold or ice water. This will make the egg easier to handle and may reduce the chance of the white breaking while peeling.
