Will the prices of petrol and diesel increase?
While tensions in West Asia are certainly driving up crude oil prices, government sources have confirmed that there are no immediate plans to increase petrol and diesel prices. Given the potential for global crude oil price fluctuations, the government is prioritizing energy security. Subsidies may be provided to oil marketing companies to help them absorb price pressures, maintain their profit margins, and protect the public from the impact of global price increases.
To address the supply disruptions caused by the war between Iran and the United States, crude oil purchases from Russia are continuing. Plans are also underway to purchase oil from Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Currently, oil marketing companies are incurring losses (under-recovery) of 20 to 25 rupees per liter on diesel and 5 to 10 rupees per liter on petrol.
