Holi 2025: Celebrated with Enthusiasm Not Only in India but Also in These Countries

Holi is a festival that brings to mind vibrant colors, joy, laughter, delicious sweets, and an atmosphere of celebration. It is not just a festival of colors but also symbolizes love, unity, and new beginnings. While Holi is celebrated with great enthusiasm across India, its excitement can also be seen in many other countries worldwide.

Although it is most popular in North India, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Bengal, Indian communities abroad have preserved their cultural heritage by celebrating Holi. Interestingly, even local residents in several countries participate in the festivities. Let’s explore some of the countries where Holi is celebrated with equal zeal.

1. Nepal

Nepal, India's neighboring country, shares a deep connection with Hindu traditions. Holi, known as Fagu Purnima, is celebrated with great excitement across Nepal. In cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, people gather in the streets to throw colors, dance to music, and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Water balloons and colorful powders are commonly used, making it a lively celebration.

2. Mauritius

Mauritius has a significant Indian population, and Holi is celebrated with enthusiasm similar to the way it is observed in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Traditions such as Bhajan-Kirtan, Holika Dahan, and playing with colors are widely practiced. Recognizing the importance of this festival, the Mauritius government has declared Holi a national holiday, allowing people to celebrate without restrictions.

3. Fiji

Fiji has a large Indian diaspora, primarily from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Here, Holi is a grand affair, featuring traditional music, dance, and cultural performances. Not only the Indian community but also the local Fijian population participates, making it a multi-cultural festival filled with joy and colors.

4. Pakistan

Despite the partition, many Hindus in Sindh province, Karachi, Lahore, and other regions continue to celebrate Holi. Hindu temples and community centers host grand Holi events, where people apply gulal (colored powder) and take part in religious rituals. In recent years, the celebration has gained more recognition, with non-Hindus also participating in the festivities.

5. Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, Holi is celebrated in cities like Dhaka, Chittagong, and Sylhet, especially among the Hindu community. It is also known as Dol Purnima or Basant Utsav, where people play with colors, organize pujas, and conduct havan (ritual offerings) in temples. The festival is an integral part of Bengali Hindu traditions, much like in West Bengal, India.
