Strong jump in GST collection for the month of June
GST Collections for June 2026: The government treasury has seen a huge jump in the month of June. According to the latest data released on GST, India's GST (Goods and Services Tax) collection in June 2026 has increased by 13.9% on an annual basis to reach Rs 1.95 lakh crore (Rs 1,94,812 crore), whereas in June last year this collection was Rs 1.71 lakh crore. According to the data released by the Finance Ministry, this increase in GST collection in the month of June this year is the fastest in the last 13 months.
How much did the government earn from where?
The biggest jump in revenue came from taxes on imported goods, which rose 34.6% to ₹60,038 crore (approximately $1.2 billion USD) from ₹44,608 crore (approximately $1.2 billion USD) in June last year. Domestic trade collections rose 6.5% year-on-year to ₹134,774 crore (approximately $1.2 billion USD) in June from ₹126,505 crore (approximately $1.2 billion USD). Net GST revenue rose 11.2% to ₹162,377 crore (approximately $1.62 billion USD) in June from ₹145,984 crore (approximately $1.45 billion USD) a year earlier. Total refunds rose 29.1% to ₹32,436 crore (approximately $3.2 billion USD).
How was the performance of each state?
- Maharashtra tops the list with GST collection of Rs 30,714 crore.
- Karnataka and Gujarat also recorded collections of ₹12,937 crore and ₹11,743 crore respectively.
- Uttar Pradesh performed best among the larger states, with GST collections rising 19% compared to last year to reach ₹9,165 crore.
- Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh recorded declines of 2%, 5% and 5% respectively
Overall, the biggest driver of GST growth this year was the import of foreign goods. Furthermore, strong demand for goods and commodities within the country has also contributed to the surge in GST collections. Furthermore, the digital ecosystem and improvements in tax administration have also strengthened GST collections.
