Team India will play the second Test against Sri Lanka starting Sunday, August 23rd. The Indian team leads the two-match Test series 1-0. Now, Team India's goal will be to whitewash Sri Lanka. Before the second Test, Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke to the media. During the meeting, Gambhir gave a befitting reply to his critics.
Gautam Gambhir remains in the headlines for his outspoken statements. This time too, his statement has gone viral on social media. Gambhir said, "My job is to win trophies. It's not my job to get likes and views on social media. Rankings don't matter to me. The team is going through a period of change. In such a situation, there are some ups and downs. But you see, we have been playing consistently well since the England tour."
Gambhir admitted that the issue of frequent injuries has been discussed at the highest level of the team management. He said, "Many of our players were unavailable for this series as well. This matter has been discussed. This is not just a BCCI issue, but our overall goal is to ensure that our best players play as much cricket as possible. This will maintain continuity in the team and allow us to regularly promote our best players in the right direction."
The Indian team currently sits fifth in the World Test Championship points table. India is ranked above Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. However, Gambhir declined to place too much importance on the rankings.
The second test will be played in Colombo.
