Dhruv Jurel, the rising star of Rajasthan Royals, has become one of the most talked-about young players in IPL 2025. With 106 runs in 3 matches at a strike rate of 151.42, he's quickly establishing himself as a key player. But few know the emotional and inspiring story behind his journey—rooted in determination, struggle, and a father's life-changing advice.
He Almost Quit Cricket
In a recent interview on AB de Villiers’ YouTube show “AB de Villiers 360”, Jurel revealed that he once considered quitting cricket altogether. The lack of opportunities and consistent setbacks left him feeling defeated. In frustration, he told his father, “Papa, I am not able to do this.”
A Soldier Father's Words That Changed Everything
Jurel’s father, a veteran of the Kargil War, gave him a piece of advice that changed his mindset forever. Recalling what his own father had told him, Jurel’s father said:
“If you're joining the army, never return defeated. And if you plan to give up, then don't return home.”
He then told Dhruv, “You just work hard. Even if you don’t succeed, I’m with you.”
These words gave Dhruv the motivation he needed to continue pursuing cricket with full dedication.
From U-19 to ₹14 Crore IPL Retention
Jurel soon made it to the Indian U-19 team, where he served as vice-captain in the 2019 U-19 World Cup. Now, in IPL 2025, the same player who once wanted to quit has been retained by Rajasthan Royals for ₹14 crore.
A Story of Resilience and Inspiration
From being on the verge of giving up to becoming one of the most valuable players of the season, Dhruv Jurel's journey is a testament to hard work, belief, and parental support. As Rajasthan Royals aim for the title, they have in Jurel not just a skilled batsman, but a player shaped by courage and resilience.
