How to remove black marks from shoes and slippers from the floor?

Easy Hacks To Clean Rubber Shoe Marks On Floors: When cleaning your house, black marks on the floor are often the most annoying. Especially when, despite the floor being clean, marks from the rubber soles of shoes and slippers are visible everywhere. Removing them with a simple mop isn't always easy. Sometimes, scrubbing will lighten the marks, but they won't completely disappear.

These rubber marks aren't just caused by shoes. Moving furniture around can also cause the underside to rub against the floor, leaving black marks. Fortunately, removing them doesn't always require expensive cleaners. These marks can be removed with a few household items.

Don't try the tennis ball method first.

Rubbing a tennis ball on the floor is often recommended as a method for removing black scuff marks. However, this method is not guaranteed to completely remove the marks. This method may lighten the marks somewhat, but it is not very effective on stubborn black marks. Instead, a melamine sponge, commonly known as an eraser sponge, can be used. Its texture is very finely abrasive, so it can help remove dirt and marks from many surfaces. When using it, use a gentle hand to clean the affected area rather than applying too much pressure.

Clean shoes can also remove marks.

This method may seem a little strange, but you can use a clean, light-colored shoe with a sole to remove rubber marks from shoes. Gently rub the heel of the shoe over the stained area. Often, the rubber mark will gradually disappear this way. Be careful not to use a shoe with a dirty or dark-colored sole for this purpose. Doing so could leave another mark on the floor.

Clean with a rubber eraser

A simple eraser you have at home can also be useful in removing these marks. First, clean the area with a damp cloth. Then, gently rub the eraser over the mark. After rubbing for a while, the mark may gradually fade. This method doesn't require too much force. Especially on wood or surfaces where the finish might be damaged, it's best to test it on a small, inconspicuous area first.

Baking soda can also be useful.

If the stain doesn't come off easily, baking soda can be used. Mix baking soda with a little water to form a thick paste. Gently rub this paste onto the stained area using a clean cloth. After cleaning, wipe the area with a clean cloth and let the floor dry completely. Avoid walking on the area until it dries.

Vinegar and water solution

A solution of vinegar and water can also help with some floors. Mix equal parts of the two in a spray bottle and apply a small amount to the stained area. Wait a few minutes and then wipe it off with a damp cloth. However, vinegar isn't suitable for all floor types. Especially on wooden floors, it's important to check that the solution is safe for that particular floor surface before using it.

If there are very stubborn marks

If these methods still don't remove the black marks, you can use a commercial cleaner formulated for your floor type. Floor surfaces vary, so it's best to test any cleaner on a small area first rather than applying it directly to the entire surface.

How to prevent future scars

In addition to removing scuff marks, it's also important to prevent them from recurring. Make it a habit to remove your outdoor shoes near the door. Floor protectors can be placed under furniture legs to prevent scuff marks when moving them. Placing mats in appropriate areas of the house can also reduce dirt and scuff marks. Regular cleaning and vacuuming of floors also help prevent dirt from accumulating.
