The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced a significant update, allowing members with an Aadhaar-linked Universal Account Number (UAN) to modify key personal details without submitting any documents. This change aims to simplify the process and reduce delays in profile updates.
Who Can Use This Feature?
EPFO has clarified that this facility is exclusively available to individuals whose UAN is both linked and verified with Aadhaar. The primary goal of this update is to streamline profile changes, minimize complaints, and accelerate the resolution of pending requests. Previously, such modifications required employer verification, extending the process to 20-28 days. With the latest update, members can now make necessary updates seamlessly and efficiently.
Details That Can Be Updated Without Documents
If the UAN is verified through Aadhaar, members can update the following details without uploading supporting documents:
- Name
- Date of Birth
- Gender
- Nationality
- Parent’s Name (Father/Mother)
- Marital Status
- Spouse’s Name
- Date of Joining
- Date of Leaving
Understanding UAN
The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique 12-digit identifier used to track Provident Fund (PF) accounts. A UAN is necessary for checking PF balance, making withdrawals, and updating details. To benefit from employment-linked schemes, a member's UAN must be activated and linked with a bank account and Aadhaar.
Mandatory Aadhaar and PAN Linking
According to EPFO regulations, it is essential to link Aadhaar and PAN with an EPF account. Discrepancies in details between the EPF account and Aadhaar can lead to processing delays. The timeline for updating EPF details depends on employer verification and EPFO's internal processing duration.
Steps to Update EPFO Profile
To make changes to your profile, follow these steps:
- Visit the official EPFO website: www.epfindia.gov.in.
- Log in to the member portal using your UAN, password, and captcha code.
- Navigate to the "Manage" option in the top menu.
- Select "Modify Basic Details."
- Enter updated information as per your Aadhaar details and submit the request.
- Track the status of your request using the "Track Request" option.
New Rule for Pension Withdrawals (Effective January 1, 2025)
As part of the latest regulatory changes, pensioners can now withdraw funds from any bank across the country, offering greater convenience and accessibility.
These updates by EPFO mark a significant step towards a more user-friendly and efficient system, reducing paperwork and expediting profile modifications for its members.
