If you are fond of drinking cold drinks, then you should note that a 300 ml soft drink contains 31.8 grams of sugar and 132 calories, which can prove to be very harmful for our health. Similarly, chocolate pastries are liked all over the world, as tasty as it is to eat, it is equally harmful for health because it contains 12 grams of sugar and 297 calories.

There are so many calories in the products available in the market

At the same time, flavored juice contains 46.8 grams of sugar and 189 calories and chocolate has 25 grams of sugar and 100 kilo calories, while a gulab jamun contains 32 grams of sugar and 254 kilo calories. These examples show that we are getting a lot of hidden sugar in our everyday diet without knowing it. In such a situation, it becomes important to know how much sugar is going into your body by consuming something. In India, where the use of sugar is deeply associated with traditional sweets, festivals and other events, the increase in its consumption is a matter of concern. The increasing consumption of sugar and sugary beverages in India has led to a rapid increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes.

There has been a big change in eating habits in India in the last few decades. Due to globalization, sugar-rich foods and beverages have become more easily available today than before. Along with traditional sweets, the consumption of cold drinks and processed foods has also increased, which has become a threat to health.

The World Health Organisation also suggests that only 5-10 per cent of daily calories should come from 'free sugar'. To ensure this, we should prioritise fruits, vegetables and whole grains in our diet.
