MP Shashi Tharoor did not attend the Congress meeting.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is scheduled to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in 12 states, and the Congress party convened a meeting on Tuesday (November 18, 2025). Senior Congress leaders, including AICC general secretaries and AICC in-charges from all states and union territories where the Election Commission is scheduled to conduct the SIR, attended the meeting. However, senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor, was absent from this crucial meeting.
MP Shashi Tharoor was also invited by the Congress leadership to attend this important meeting. However, Tharoor's office cited health reasons for his absence. His office stated that Tharoor is currently unwell and therefore did not attend the party meeting.
After the meeting, the organization's general secretary, KC Venugopal, gave information.
Congress Party's Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal said that a comprehensive review was held with the All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretaries, In-charge, PCC, CLP, and Secretaries on Tuesday (November 18, 2025) at the Congress headquarters Indira Bhawan in Delhi to formulate a comprehensive strategy for the SIR to be held in 12 states and union territories.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is working at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Election Commission is destroying democracy in the country. The deliberate deletion of votes from certain sections of the state's voter lists is completely undemocratic. He announced that a grand rally will be held in Delhi's Ramlila Maidan in the first week of December to protest against the SIR.
Congress is committed to protecting the purity of the voter list: Kharge.
Meanwhile, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge shared a post about the meeting on the social media platform X. He stated that the Congress Party is fully committed to protecting the integrity of the voter list. He said that the Election Commission should immediately provide proof that it is not working under the aegis of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and that it remembers its constitutional oath and its loyalty to the people of the country.
