Cyber risk in Indian companies is 96 percent.
With the increasing use of AI, the threat of cyberattacks is also becoming a major challenge for companies. According to a new Cisco report, 96 percent of organizations in India experienced a cyber incident in the last 12 months that directly impacted their business. More than one-third of these cases involved AI-assisted attacks. For companies, cybersecurity is no longer just a technology issue; it is also directly impacting business operations.
What's a bigger problem in cyber defense than technology?
Cisco's Relentless Defense Report states that a lack of technology isn't the only obstacle to strengthening companies' cybersecurity. Delays in approvals, fragmented data, and poorly connected teams are also significant obstacles to strengthening security. The report is based on a double-blind survey of 8,000 security professionals in 30 markets, including 1,000 from India.
India's security score was 66
The report evaluated companies based on the coverage of their security systems, the speed at which they detect cyber threats, and their ability to remediate them. India's average score was 66 out of 100, compared to a global average of 64. However, only 8 percent of organizations in India reached the top-performing category, a figure similar to 8 percent globally. According to the report, these top organizations had better security coverage and a greater ability to detect and respond to threats quickly.
Gap between Security, IT, and Networking teams
In India, only 40 percent said their security, networking, and IT teams work together and have shared tools and visibility. This means that in a large number of organizations, security-related tasks are fragmented across separate teams. Data also emerged as a major challenge. 44 percent of Indian organizations reported spending more time collecting and integrating data from disparate systems than addressing actual cyber threats. Another 43 percent admitted that lack of access to data silos prevents valuable insights from emerging.
Is AI making cybersecurity stronger?
More than 90% of security experts in India say AI has improved the ability to detect and respond to cyber threats by at least 25%. Nearly 40% of companies are using AI agents, but concerns about data leaks and system security remain.
