CSK Openers Set an Unwanted IPL Record by Scoring Ducks in the Same Match

While the Chennai Super Kings secured a much-needed victory against Kolkata Knight Riders on their home ground, the match also brought an embarrassing record for the CSK openers. Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway, known for their aggressive batting, were both dismissed without scoring — a rare and unwanted feat in the history of the IPL.

A Forgettable Outing for CSK Openers

Chasing KKR’s target, Chennai had a disastrous start. Ayush Mhatre, who had played a brilliant knock in the previous match, was dismissed by Vaibhav Arora on the second ball of the innings for a duck. Soon after, Devon Conway was bowled by Moeen Ali, also without opening his account.

This marked just the second instance in IPL history where both openers of a team were dismissed for zero. The first time this occurred was back in 2008, when Parthiv Patel and Stephen Fleming of CSK were dismissed for ducks against Rajasthan Royals, with Sohail Tanvir striking twice in the very first over.

CSK's Third Win This Season

Despite the shaky start, Chennai went on to win the match by two wickets, securing their third victory of the season. The team had suffered four back-to-back defeats before this, but the win over KKR brought some relief. More importantly, the loss knocked KKR out of playoff contention.

Under MS Dhoni's captaincy, CSK now has 3 wins in 12 matches and sits at the bottom of the points table. With just two matches remaining, Chennai will be aiming to finish strong and avoid ending the season at the last position.
