The fear of COVID-19 has returned to Delhi-NCR as new cases begin to surface again. With 23 active cases confirmed in the capital and 4 new infections in Ghaziabad, the Delhi government has reactivated emergency protocols. In a concerning case, a man in Gurugram, who had no travel history and no recent contact with outsiders, tested positive — raising questions about community transmission. Cases are also being reported from Faridabad, adding to the growing regional concern.
Delhi Government’s Fresh Advisory: Be Prepared, Not Panicked
In response, the Delhi government has issued a strict advisory to all hospitals. Here's what it mandates:
- ✅ Check oxygen stock
- ✅ Ensure bed availability
- ✅ Keep medicines and vaccines in stock
- ✅ Activate ventilators and life-saving machines
Additionally, all positive samples must be sent to Lok Nayak Hospital for genome sequencing, and daily reporting on the Delhi Health Portal and IHIP platform is now mandatory.
Precautions Are Back
The Health Department has reminded people of the basics:
- Masks are essential
- Maintain social distancing
- Frequent hand hygiene is critical
Health Minister’s Reassurance
Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh has urged residents not to panic. “We are alert at every level,” he said. “An 8-member senior monitoring team is inspecting hospitals. The system is fully ready.”
The Bigger Picture: JN.1 Variant Slowly Spreading
Beyond Delhi, the JN.1 variant — a descendant of the Omicron family — is appearing in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Though reportedly less severe, its rapid spread has authorities on edge.
The message is clear:
Stay calm. Stay cautious. Stay safe.
COVID may be back — but we know how to fight it.
