After a nearly three-year hiatus, Covid-19 has made a comeback in the national capital. On Thursday, 23 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Delhi, sparking concerns among health authorities and prompting immediate action from the government.
Government Alert and Preparedness
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh confirmed the new cases and stated that investigations are underway to determine whether the infected individuals are residents of Delhi or have a recent travel history from other regions.
"The Delhi government is fully prepared to handle any situation. We have already coordinated with the medical superintendents, doctors, and their teams in all hospitals across the capital," said Singh in an official statement.
Hospitals Put on Alert
In response to the new cases, the Delhi government has issued an advisory to all its hospitals and health centers. The advisory emphasizes preparedness in terms of hospital beds, oxygen supply, availability of antibiotics and other medications, as well as vaccines.
Hospitals have been instructed to remain on high alert and ensure all necessary resources are in place for quick response and care.
Genome Sequencing and Surveillance
All hospitals have been directed to send positive Covid-19 samples to Lok Nayak Hospital for genome sequencing. This step aims to track potential variants and monitor the spread of infection more accurately.
The health department is closely monitoring the situation and has assured the public that timely updates will be provided.
Rising Cases Across States
The advisory follows the recent emergence of Covid-19 cases in multiple states across India, indicating a potential resurgence. While the current number in Delhi is low, the government is taking proactive measures to prevent any large-scale outbreak.
Public Advisory
Although no restrictions have been reimposed yet, authorities are urging citizens to remain cautious, follow basic hygiene protocols, and get vaccinated if they haven’t already. The government continues to emphasize the importance of early testing and isolation in case of symptoms.
