A dispute over the installation of iron railings outside a mosque in Chaumun town, Jaipur district, Rajasthan, led to violent clashes between rioters and police on Friday morning. Tension gripped the area. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. near the Chaumun bus stand. Several police officers were injured in the stone-pelting, and tear gas was used to control the situation.

Amidst all this, one of the people arrested in connection with the stone-pelting incident in Chomu said, "We did nothing." Another of the detained individuals said, "I did not pelt stones. There was debris in my house. I swear I did not pick up a single stone."

What is the matter with the Kalandari Mosque?

Meanwhile, West District DCP Hanuman Prasad Meena said, "There is a Kalandari Mosque here, where encroachment has been a subject of controversy for a long time. One party voluntarily removed the encroachment, but some people attempted to permanently encroach by digging up iron angles. We were removing these, but during this time, some miscreants pelted stones at the police. Some of our officers were also injured. We will take strict action against those involved. At present, there is complete peace here."

According to police officials, six policemen were injured in the violence and have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Most of them suffered head injuries, though their condition is reported to be stable. Several police vehicles were also damaged during the stone-pelting. Police sources said the dispute involved the removal of stones placed on the roadside near the mosque.

On Thursday evening, a meeting was held between members of a particular community and the police administration, in which the community agreed to voluntarily remove the stones. However, after the stones were removed, some people began installing iron railings to create a boundary around the mosque, sparking new tensions. When police attempted to intervene, a section of the crowd allegedly resorted to stone pelting.

Police fired tear gas shells.

As the situation escalated, additional police forces were dispatched from several police stations, including Chaumun, Harmara, Vishwakarma, and Daulatpura. To disperse the crowd and prevent further violence, police used mild force and fired tear gas.

Senior officials stated that the situation was brought under control by morning. Police conducted flag marches throughout Chaumun to ensure law and order. Additional Commissioner of Police Dr. Rajiv Pachar, DCP West Hanuman Prasad, and Additional DCP Rajesh Gupta, along with other senior officers from Jaipur, arrived at the scene to monitor the situation. Officials appealed to local residents to maintain peace and harmony.

Police officials stated that the area is currently peaceful. A search operation is underway to identify those involved in the stone-pelting. Legal action will be taken against all the accused. Officials sternly stated that anyone attempting to disrupt law and order will not be spared.

Former Chaumun MLA Ramlal Sharma claimed that the situation is under control. He said that the internet service is working in the local area. So far, the internet service is working, and the situation is under control. However, WhatsApp service and bulk messaging services have been shut down.
