China to deploy robots on its border

China is about to embark on a unique project on its border. Trials of humanoid robots for crowd control and guidance are about to begin. The trials will first take place on the country's border with Vietnam. China is gradually expanding the use of advanced robotics in its public services and border management. UBTech Robotics has received the first major contract for this trial. Let's learn more about it.

Which robots will be used?

UBTech Robotics has received a contract worth approximately ₹330 crore to supply robots for this trial. The company's Walker S2 robots, which have their own power system, will be used. This means these robots will be able to swap batteries automatically, ensuring their long-term use. The trial will test the robots' practicality and real-world capabilities. They will be tasked with guiding tourists at the border, carrying luggage, and assisting with duty management. Deliveries of these robots will begin next month.

What is the specialty of the robot?

Walker S2 was launched in July this year and stands approximately 1.76 meters tall. This robot, with flexible limbs, has a total of 52 joints. Its hands also have multiple joints, allowing it to perform delicate tasks and lift weights of up to 15 kilograms. It can walk at a speed of approximately 7 kilometers per hour, similar to humans, and can maintain its balance while lifting heavy objects. It takes just three minutes to swap its batteries. Two cameras replace human eyes. It also has a mechanical brain that can make its own decisions.
