Chhath Puja begins with Nahay-Khay. On this day, devotees bathe in the river and take a vow to fast by consuming sattvik food. Arwa rice cooked in rock salt and ghee, and gourd vegetable are consumed as prasad.

Kharna is the second day of Chhath Puja. On this day, devotees observe a day-long fast, and in the evening, after worshipping the Sun God, they prepare a special offering, known as 'kharna' or 'lohanda' (Lohanda). This marks the beginning of a 36-hour fast. Rasiya, or jaggery kheer, is the main offering on this day. This kheer is made from jaggery and raw rice.
