Chaturmas 2026: Follow these rules during Chaturmas, and also pay attention to charity

According to the Hindu calendar, the four-month period from Devshayani Ekadashi to Devuthani Ekadashi is called Chaturmas. Religious belief holds that during this time, Lord Vishnu enters a state of yogic sleep, and Lord Shiva assumes the responsibility of guiding the universe. This year, Chaturmas will begin on July 25th.

Charity and chanting hold special significance.
According to the scriptures, bathing, donating, chanting, performing austerities, performing homa (fire sacrifices), and worshipping deities during Chaturmas (fourteenth-month) yields everlasting benefits. Listening to Puranas, singing praises of Lord Vishnu, and chanting the name of the deity during this period brings many times more merit.

What should one do during Chaturmas?
Daily worship of Lord Vishnu, recitation of Vishnu Sahasranama, and ritualistic worship of Lord Shiva are considered auspicious during Chaturmas. Sleeping on the ground and practicing celibacy are also recommended for positive energy and a disciplined life. Charity and good deeds and spiritual gatherings are considered especially important during this time.

Do not do these things:
According to religious beliefs, marriage, house warming, mundan and other auspicious functions should be avoided during Chaturmas. Apart from this, it is considered beneficial to stay away from tamasic food, negative thoughts and immoral conduct.
