Cardiac Health: If you are relying on a normal ECG report, be careful; if you do not pay attention, death can occur at any time.

Can ECGs Miss Heart Disease? Heart-related diseases have increased rapidly in the last few years. Sometimes, even though the report appears to be okay, we still experience problems. Let's explain why.

How to take care of heart disease?

ECG Normal Still Heart Attack: An ECG, or electrocardiogram, is the most commonly used heart test. It records the electrical signals that control the heartbeat. This can reveal signs of heart rhythm disturbances or a previous heart attack. The test is quick, painless, and inexpensive, so most people feel relieved when the results come back normal.

But doctors say that a normal ECG doesn't necessarily mean a completely healthy heart. Serious heart problems often go undetected on an ECG. Relying solely on this report can provide false reassurance, which can prove dangerous in the long run.

Why can't an ECG alone reveal the complete health of the heart?

The heart functions through three important systems: first, the electrical system, which is measured by an ECG to determine whether the heart is beating in the correct rhythm. Second, the muscular system, i.e., the strength of the heart muscles, is usually assessed with a 2D Echocardiogram. Third, the blood flow system, which shows whether blood is flowing properly in the arteries, is assessed through angiography.

According to a study published in the National Institutes of Health, coronary artery disease was diagnosed in only about 62 percent of patients based on resting ECG tests. This means that a large number of patients have normal ECGs, but blockages in the heart arteries persist. Experts advise against relying solely on an ECG if symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden fatigue, sweating, or dizziness occur. If necessary, tests such as an echocardiogram, stress test, or angiography should also be performed to detect heart disease early.

How you should take care of your health as you age

As people age, the heart muscle undergoes natural changes, which can be tracked through an ECG. Regarding this, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman of Medanta Medicity Hospital, suggests some health tips that, if followed, can help us live a better life.

He explains:

First of all, you need to keep drinking water whether you feel thirsty or not. It's important to drink at least two liters of water a day.

The second thing is to keep working as much as possible. Don't lie down or act like a lazy boy. Get moving, move around, and keep working. Exercising keeps your body active.

Third, most important, eat less. Try to eat only as much as your body needs. Even within this, you should eat nutritious foods. Avoid eating carbohydrates at night.

The fourth principle is to minimize your vehicle use. If you have to travel a limited distance, try walking; this burns energy. Try to minimize your vehicle and elevator use.

Fifth, and most importantly, you need to control your anger. To do this, you need to speak less and think carefully before speaking about what you should and should not say.

The sixth mantra is that you should give up the greed for money, one thing should be kept in mind that it is important to earn only as much money as is necessary to live.
