Teacher Suffers Cardiac Arrest During CPR Class: A shocking incident has occurred in the United States, where a teacher explaining CPR and the symptoms of a heart attack to students suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest. For a moment, the students thought it was part of the class, but soon realized the situation had become serious. Let us explain what happened.

What is the matter

According to The Washington Post, 72-year-old Carl Arps was training as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, Wisconsin. During the class, he was explaining to students about heart attacks and related emergencies when he suddenly felt dizzy and short of breath. He collapsed shortly afterward.

Students thought it was a joke

Initially, the students thought they were acting out a patient's condition, but student Logan Lehrer noticed Carl Arps's arm twisting strangely and his face changing. He reported hearing snoring-like breathing, initially thinking it might be a way to explain a new symptom, but after about ten seconds, he realized it was a real medical emergency.

Immediately, the students called for another instructor, Tracy Blondeau. She initially tried to calm Carl Arps down, but quickly realized he wasn't acting. One student immediately called 911, while the others pulled him out of the mock ambulance in the classroom and laid him on the floor.

The students helped

What happened next surprised everyone. The same students who had just been taught CPR were now working to save their teacher's life. Under the supervision of instructors, the students took turns administering CPR and using a defibrillator. By the time paramedics arrived, Carl Arps' pulse had returned.

A very scary experience to watch

Logan Lehrer said that reading about cardiac arrest in books is one thing, but seeing it happen in front of his eyes was a very frightening experience. He said that at that time, every student knew their job, and no one made a mistake due to panic. Carl Arps later underwent triple bypass surgery and was discharged from the hospital after seven days. He thanked the students and said that they did exactly as they were taught in CPR class. Currently, he is recovering rapidly and is preparing to return to work in a few months.
