Government of India has given a big shock by stopping all imports from Pakistan. The government has once again taken an important step and banned the entry of Pakistani ships into Indian ports. At the same time, Indian ships have also been banned from going to any port of Pakistan. The main objective of implementing these orders is to ensure the security of Indian maritime assets, cargo and port infrastructure.
Use of Section 411 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958
The Government of India has taken this drastic decision in exercise of its powers under Section 411 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958. This Act regulates commercial maritime activities in India. Section 411 empowers the government to prohibit the entry of any foreign vessel into Indian ports on grounds of national security, public interest or strategic importance. Under this legal provision, Pakistani ships have been stopped from entering Indian waters.

Main effects of ban-
The most significant impact of this ban will be on the security of India's sensitive ports, container terminals and oil terminals. The implementation of this ban will greatly reduce the risk of direct maritime espionage or any type of criminal activities. This decision will have a direct impact on the maritime trade between the two countries. Now no Pakistani ship will be able to enter Indian waters. Similarly, Indian ships will not be able to go to Pakistan. Due to this, sea trade between India and Pakistan will be completely stopped.
Economic Challenges for Pakistan-
This step of India may cause a big blow to Pakistan economically. Many of Pakistan's maritime trade routes operated through Indian ports. Now Pakistan will have to find new options to continue these trade routes. These alternative routes are likely to prove longer, more expensive and less commercially viable, increasing both the cost and time of Pakistan's maritime trade.
