AIIMS has changed its treatment rules, giving priority to online appointments and referring patients.

The AIIMS administration maintains that the cases that are referred are the AIIMS's real responsibility. However, the administration has clarified that arriving without an appointment may result in a long wait.

AIIMS, the country's largest government medical institution, has clarified its treatment priorities at the start of the new year. The institute says that with limited resources, serious and complex patients will only receive better treatment if the burden of more common illnesses is reduced. The AIIMS administration has appealed for cooperation from patients and their families.

Super specialty hospital, not a general clinic

AIIMS Director Dr. M. Srinivasa stated that the institute is not designed to treat minor everyday illnesses. AIIMS's role is to address cases where the treatment is more complex or where other hospitals don't have the necessary facilities. For cases like coughs, colds, or mild fevers, local hospitals are a better option.

Coming unnecessarily increases problems.

According to the director, a large number of patients reach AIIMS who could be treated at general hospitals. This complicates the timely delivery of care to critically ill patients. If people receive treatment at the right level, AIIMS services can be more effective.

Emphasis on online appointments

The online appointment system for treatment at AIIMS is being further strengthened. The administration has clarified that patients with prior appointments will be given priority. Arriving without an appointment may result in a longer wait.

Trying to maintain convenience amidst heavy crowds

The AIIMS administration says that improvements are constantly being made to ensure patient convenience. Electric vehicles have been installed to facilitate patient movement at night. The goal is to ensure that treatment is not accompanied by chaos.

Not every patient is equal; priority is necessary.

Dr. Srinivas explained that every patient who comes to AIIMS has a different condition. Therefore, treatment is prioritized. Every year, approximately 5 million patients visit the OPD for treatment. This number exceeds the population of many small countries. Therefore, a single hospital cannot handle the entire country's burden.

Referral patients will be given priority.

AIIMS administration says that cases referred by other hospitals due to lack of resources or expertise are AIIMS's real responsibility. To maintain focus on these patients, it is necessary to reduce the crowd.

Hospital system will be more digital

AIIMS has taken another major step to strengthen its treatment system. Information related to on-call duty will now be available on an online dashboard, providing instant visibility of which doctor or staff member is on duty at any given time.

Complete duty information will be available in one click, there will be no delay in case of emergency.

Under the new system, all departments will upload their on-call rosters to the AIIMS intranet. The control room and administration will no longer need to search for information in different locations. All data will be available on a single platform. The roster, updated in real time, will allow the appropriate medical team to be called immediately in case of an emergency. This will reduce delays in treatment and ensure timely assistance to patients. According to the AIIMS administration, from April 1st, the online on-call dashboard will be the official medium. Manual processes will be virtually eliminated. This will streamline hospital operations and directly benefit patients.
