Ahoi Ashtami Vrat Puja Materials
For the Ahoi Ashtami puja, a picture of Ahoi Mata and a book containing the fasting story are required. A pot or pitcher filled with water, Ganga water, flowers, incense sticks, cow ghee, roli, sacred thread, whole wheat flour, dry cow milk, and a karwa are required. Make-up items include a red chunari, bindi, vermilion, kajal, lali, bangles, roli, and alta.
Importance of Syahu Mala in Ahoi Vrat
The Syahu locket is made of silver and is worn only after worshipping with a tilak of roli on Ahoi Ashtami. After worshipping on Ahoi Ashtami, women wear a garland of Syahu around their necks, threaded into a sacred thread, and wear it for five days, until Diwali. It is believed that wearing this garland bestows long life upon their children. According to astrology, a silver locket of Syahu Mala strengthens the position of the Moon and is considered a symbol of peace.
