Ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the BJP has nominated 2,802 leaders across the state. Leaders have been given important responsibilities in 17 municipal bodies, 200 municipalities, and 545 nagar panchayats.

BJP starts election preparations in UP!
The Uttar Pradesh government has nominated members to 17 municipal corporations, municipal councils, and nagar panchayats across the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun implementing its strategy for the 2027 assembly elections by nominating councilors to municipal bodies. The party has attempted to strike a caste and regional balance in these nominations, indicating that the BJP is now seeking to expand its influence by reshaping social equations.
These decisions, taken especially keeping in mind the backward, Dalit, and minority classes, are being considered a challenge to the PDA formula of the opposition, especially the Samajwadi Party.
What is the BJP's strategy?
This organizational exercise isn't limited to social alignment, but also part of a strategy to activate long-awaited party workers. Through the nomination process, the party has attempted to infuse new energy into its workers, thereby accelerating election preparations.
According to a notification issued by the government on Monday, 10 councillors have been nominated in each municipal corporation of the state. In this way, a total of 170 councillors have been nominated in the municipal corporations. Among the municipal corporations of the state, 10 councillors have been nominated in Moradabad, Ghaziabad , Meerut, Saharanpur, Agra, Mathura-Vrindavan, Firozabad, Aligarh, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Kanpur, Jhansi, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagraj and Gorakhpur. There are about 200 municipal councils and 545 nagar panchayats in the state, in which members have also been nominated. In this way, a total of 2802 leaders have been nominated.
Overall, this entire exercise is being seen as an important step towards reorganising the vote bank and further sharpening the organisation at the grassroots level before the upcoming elections.
Who said what on this decision?
Meanwhile, BJP leaders expressed their happiness over the nomination of the members and extended their congratulations and best wishes. In a message on the social media platform 'X', Pankaj Chaudhary, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said, "Hearty congratulations to all the councillors nominated to the municipal bodies of Uttar Pradesh.
