Under the new system, business senders will be identified through telecom-based verification to prevent fraudulent companies from sending messages. Users' Do Not Disturb (DND) preferences will also be respected.
Google and Airtel join hands.
Airtel and Google: Bharti Airtel and Google have announced a new initiative to provide relief to mobile users in India from spam and fake messages. Both companies have jointly decided to develop a messaging system that will not only be equipped with modern features but will also be strong in terms of security. This collaboration combines Airtel's network intelligence with Google's RCS platform to provide a safe and better experience to the users.
Advanced features will be available in RCS messaging.
Under this partnership, users will get a better experience of Rich Communication Services i.e. RCS. Through this, it will be easy to send high-quality photos and videos, react to messages and have interactive conversations. All these features will be available directly through the Google Messages app which is pre-installed in most of the Android smartphones.
Tighter controls on spam and fraud:
The new system will identify business senders through telecom-based verification to prevent fraudulent companies from sending messages. Users' Do Not Disturb (DND) preferences will also be respected.
A multi-layer security mechanism will be added to the system, which will filter out suspicious links and harmful messages. Airtel and Google's AI-based spam detection technology will limit messages from senders that have been pre-identified as suspicious.
Telecom-level security now in messaging
This initiative aims to bring traditional telecom security standards to modern messaging platforms. Airtel's intelligence systems and Google's spam detection technology are being combined to create a secure ecosystem that will provide carrier-backed security.
What do the companies say?
Gopal Vittal, Executive Vice Chairman of Bharti Airtel, said that the company has long been working to combat spam through data and smart networks. He said this partnership with Google is an important step towards making rich messaging more secure.
Google's Android ecosystem lead, Sameer Samat, said that this initiative will allow Indian mobile users to communicate with greater confidence. He also indicated that Google will work with other telecom companies in the future to standardize messaging security.
