The Delhi government is launching the Atal Canteen Scheme to strengthen the provision of affordable and quality food in the capital. According to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the canteens will provide nutritious and filling meals for just 5 rupees. The government's goal in starting these canteens is to ensure that low-income laborers, rickshaw pullers, working people, and the needy can access affordable, quality food during their day. Regarding the Atal Canteen, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Atal Canteen Scheme will be launched in the capital on December 25th, the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Under this scheme, a full meal will be provided to those in need for just 5 rupees. On Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected the construction site of the Atal Canteen in the Haiderpur area and reviewed the preparations.
In the first phase, canteens will be opened at 100 locations.
In the first phase of this plan, the Delhi government will launch Atal Canteens at 100 locations across Delhi. Canteens have already begun operations in several assembly constituencies, including Shalimar Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Rohini, Patel Nagar, Badarpur, and Karawal Nagar. Each canteen will serve food twice a day, morning and evening, with 500 plates available at each time. According to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government's goal is to ensure that no one in Delhi goes to sleep hungry.
What will be available in the food at Atal Canteen?
According to the Delhi government, the food platter available at the Atal Canteen will be designed with nutrition in mind. It will include basic yet nutritionally rich items like lentils, rice, vegetables, and roti. Strict monitoring of hygiene and quality will also be implemented to ensure people can eat safe and fresh food. It is being reported that a large number of daily wage earners in Delhi will benefit from this scheme. This canteen is considered a major relief, especially for laborers, sanitation workers, rickshaw pullers, organized sector employees, and low-income groups.
It is also believed that providing food at lower prices will help lower-income groups save some money on their daily expenses. Furthermore, to maintain the quality of Atal Canteen food, regular sample testing will be conducted by FSSAI and NABL-accredited labs. The kitchen will utilize modern equipment, LPG-based cooking, industrial RO water, and cold storage facilities. All agencies associated with Atal Canteens will be required to submit food safety licenses, employee health certificates, and monthly reports.
