In a shocking mix-up, Indian cricketer Amit Mishra—the veteran spinner known for his performances in international cricket and the IPL—has found himself wrongly associated with a domestic violence and dowry case filed against another cricketer with the same name.
The actual accused in the case is Amit Mishra, a domestic player from Uttar Pradesh who has played in the IPL setup but never debuted in the league. Despite this, media outlets and social media users mistakenly began circulating images of 42-year-old Team India spinner Amit Mishra, dragging his name through the mud over something he has nothing to do with.
A Furious Clarification
Taking to social media, Amit Mishra set the record straight and issued a strong warning:
“I am extremely disappointed with what is being circulated in the media. I have always respected the press, but while the news itself may be accurate, the photograph used is mine—which is completely incorrect. Using my image for unrelated stories must stop immediately, or I will be forced to take legal action.”
His post quickly gained traction, with fans and fellow players backing his demand for accountability.
The Real Accused
The cricketer facing allegations is a fast bowler from Kanpur, who has played domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh, featured in 17 first-class matches, and had brief stints with Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions. Despite being part of IPL squads, he never made an appearance in the tournament.
His wife, Garima Tiwari, has accused him and his family of dowry harassment and domestic abuse, alleging they demanded a car and ₹10 lakh, and also cited alleged relationships with multiple women.
Why This Matters
The confusion has reignited debate around media responsibility, especially when two individuals share the same name but lead entirely different careers and public profiles. Misreporting like this can severely damage reputations, and Amit Mishra’s response signals that legal consequences may be on the horizon for those spreading misinformation.
